    Merging PDF or Word, explained

Merging files means combining two or more independent documents into a single final file, in whatever order you choose. It's one of the most common tasks when working with documents: joining several scanned PDFs, combining chapters of a Word document, or consolidating reports you've received separately. This tool does it right in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to create.

When you merge PDF files, each page keeps exactly its original content: selectable text, images, vector graphics, and fonts. The result is a single PDF where the pages from each file have simply been concatenated, in the order you specified, without recompressing or converting the content into images.

When you merge Word (.docx) files, the text, images, tables, and numbered or bulleted lists from each document are combined into one, inserting a page break between each original file. The final document uses the headers, footers, and page setup from the first file in the list — so it's a good idea to put whichever document's formatting you want to keep first.

Since the entire process happens on your own device, there are no usage limits or upload wait times: speed depends only on your computer or phone. That said, for the tool to run smoothly in any browser, the combined size of the files is limited — we always show that limit clearly before you try to merge them.

    Frequently asked questions

Is it free to merge PDF or Word files with Unido?

Yes, Unido is completely free, with no usage limits, no watermark, and no need to create an account.

Do my files get uploaded to a server?

No. The entire merging process happens inside your own browser. Your files never leave your device or get sent to any server.

What's the maximum file size I can merge?

You can merge up to 20 files with a combined size of up to 100 MB. The resulting file will weigh roughly the same.

Can I merge a PDF and a Word file into the same final document?

Not directly: Unido merges several files of the same format together (several PDFs, or several Word files). If you need to mix different formats, convert all the files to the same format first.

Are images, tables, and lists preserved when merging Word documents?

Yes: text, images, tables, and numbered or bulleted lists are preserved correctly. Headers, footers, footnotes, and comments are taken from the first file in the list.

    Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

No, this tool doesn't support encrypted or password-protected PDFs. Remove the protection from the file before merging it.

What order will the merged files be in?

Whatever order you place them in the list before clicking "Merge files". You can reorder them using the arrows next to each file.

    Does it work on mobile?

Yes, Unido works in any modern browser, on both mobile and desktop, with nothing to install.
