About Unido

Unido is a small, independent project — not a company. Here's what it does, why it exists, and how to reach the person who maintains it directly.

1

Why Unido exists

I built it because most online PDF tools either cost money, ask you to create an account, or upload your files to a server without explaining very clearly what they do with them afterward. I wanted something free, with no sign-up, that also proved — with actual behavior, not just a line in a privacy policy — that your files never leave your own device.

2

What it actually is

A set of tools for merging, splitting, compressing, and converting PDF (and Word) files that run entirely on JavaScript inside your browser. There's no server processing your files: all the work happens on your own computer or phone, and it's technically not possible for us to access the content of what you upload, because it never reaches anything of ours. It also means that, once you've visited Unido, you can install it as an app and keep using it without an internet connection.

3

Who's behind it

Unido is built and maintained by Bruno Manya Paredes, from Peru, as an independent project — there's no team, no company, no investors behind it, just one person who decided to build the tool he wished existed. That also means I write the replies to your emails myself, not a support team.

The site is funded by advertising (Google AdSense), which is what lets it stay free for everyone who uses it, with no subscriptions or usage limits. You can read in more detail how files are processed and what is not collected in the privacy policy, and who's responsible for the site in the legal notice.

If you're looking for concrete help with something you're trying to do with a file, you might also find our PDF guides useful: articles explaining in detail how to choose a format, protect your documents, reduce their size, and more.
